At Castlemaine Secondary College we are able to offer a variety of VCE subjects to suit any potential pathway into tertiary study or employment. All of the subjects that may be prerequisites for University courses are offered. We have numerous Vocational Education and Training (VET) subjects available as part of either a VCE program or our Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL).
Many of our classes are small allowing teachers more time to spend with individual students, and also making access to teachers outside of class time very easy. Our Year 12 teachers also provide free opportunities for lunchtime or after school tuition, as well as running an extensive revision program throughout the September/October Holidays.
Our daily Mentor Program assigns one Year 12 teacher to a group of fifteen or fewer students in order to monitor their wellbeing and progress in such an important year.
A Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) program is usually a 2 year course that typically includes 22 units to be studied over 4 semesters in Years 11 and 12, however it may be studied over a longer time frame for students if appropriate. Not all students have a clear idea of what their career direction is, and some who do may change their directions. For this reason, the prgrams that are selected may be changed at the end of the first semester (Year 11) and at the end of the second semester (Year 11).
